The temperature here in the Carolinas has not reached 50 degrees in days. We actually have snow piled up in a few place. Around here that rarely happens because it usually warms up and melts within hours or at least a day. That said, it is time to begin planning for summer art camp. The Artistic Playground conducts two or three weekly sessions every summer for kids grades 2 - 8 ish. Last summer we painted lighthouses, went on a field trip to the Mint Art + Craft Museum and as always, had a gallery show for the parents on the last day. We learn a little art history, talk about techniques, discuss a historical or current 'artist of the day' and usually have a daily inspirational quote. Aside from all the learning, the kids turned out some spectacular work! We focus on the process, the creativity and the fun rather than the end result. But, you know what, because of that, the end result usually is fabulous. The fun and creativity just shine right through.
This year, we have a lot more fun and creativity in store as we move into mixed media projects and do some oil painting. Check us out the pictures from last year:
